Suchirayu Hospital Hubli has done number of successfully minimally invasive Heart surgery

The Dr. Sharan Hallad a Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon has  explained about Cardiac Surgery, Minimally invasive heart surgery is also called keyhole surgery, is when a conventional operation is performed on or inside the heart using small incisions and mostly uses specialized instruments.

We have performed various types of incision used in minimally invasive heart surgery

Partial sternotomy : A3- to 4- inch long incision is made through the sternum, and the breast bone is separted in that area so we can see the part of the heart that need surgery.
Lowe partial sternotomy : Used for Mitral valve, Tricuspid valve, epicardial lead placement, atrial septal defect (ASD), patent foraman ovalve (PFO) myxoma and aortic valve surgeries.
Upper partial sternotomy: Used for ascending aorta, Aortic valve, Mitral valve, Tricuspid valve, two valves transaortic TAVR, ASD, PFO, myxoma and fibroblastoma surgeries.

Mini-thoracotomy : We avoid cutting through the breast bone and instead cuts into muscles between the ribs to reach the heart. Used for Mitral valve, Tricuspid valve,ASD,PFO, Myxoma, Aortic valve and transaortic TAVR surgeries and also for CABG, transapical TAVR, transapical TEVAR and epicardial lead placement surgeries.

Benefits of Minimally invasive surgery :
  • Small incision
  • Small scars
  • Less pain
  • Shorter hospital stay after surgery
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Lower risk of bleeding and blood transfusion
  • Shorter recovery time and faster return to normal activities / work.
Recovery of Patients:
If you have minimally invasive or robotic surgery, you will probably be able to go home two to five days after surgery.
In general, it takes about one to four weeks before you will feel well enough to work (if your jobs does not involve physical activity), resume driving and take part in most non-strenuous activities, so long as you have stopped taking pain medications. It is important to know that everyone has a different recovery and we will give guidelines based on how well you are doing.

Doctors explained about the difference between two surgery:
